In my flow I have four tools that help me get it right:

  1. Task List
  2. Calendar
  3. Activity/Habit Tracker
  4. Journal

How I use these tools are often aligned with my core Productivity guidelines that I've developed for myself.

Philosophy

There's plenty of disciplines and methods for being productive. Here's some rules that I try to live by:

  1. Write what you want to accomplish
  2. Follow through with your goals
  3. Keep track of your time
  4. Reflect often with the goal of correcting, refining, and improving ones flow
  5. Consolidate and centralize information worth remembering

With these in mind, it's easy to describe how I get into the cycle of being productive.

The typical flow

  1. Use a task list for individual tasks for individual projects
  2. Use a calendar to allocate blocks of time in the future to remind you of an event or deadline
  3. Use an activity/habit tracker to log time spent on a project or assignment, or learning a skill or a new habit
  4. Use a journal for ideas and as a personal space to document things
